Introduction I think......

Welcome to the board, depends on what you mean getting one over on you. Large yards or the ones that are part of big corps (like SIMS) usually have fixed prices and try to give you the right price. They WANT you to come back and bring them more. Smaller indy yards might be a problem, especially if they think you are a one timer. Believe me, I 'gave' away so much good stuff over the years simply by not knowing better. Example: Our local e-waste place pays amount X for everything. If I am 'lazy' and don't break stuff down for better value or sell some of the stuff on eBay it is not THEIR fault. Their entire business model is based on people bringing them stuff they can turn a profit on. I am only into ewaste for a few weeks now and the forum is great but also overwhelming. I learn more EVERY day by simply doing it and researching as I go. E.g. last week I had a few small cooling fans from a desktop tower. Was wondering if there is value above scrap. Went on here, found the answer which is NO, cut the wires for insulated copper ($0.60/lbs) and toss the motors in with e-motors ($0.15/lbs). Took a few minutes, but now I know and next time it will take mere seconds to take care of it. Just keep on researching and learning. I posted yesterday about the pain in the neck it is to break down laptops and if it is really worth it. Well, I got my answers and you bet your behind it is worth it. My buddy broke one down last night and got some seriously good parts out of it. 2 x 2GB Ram (can sell on ebay as bundle for $16.97), HDD $30-50 wiped and tested on eBay. CPU goes into the Pentium CPU box. MoBo prob worth about $3.50. the laptops was exposed to water, so he did not even test it. Should have anyway. Might actually been worth more on ebay whole even for parts. But nonetheless, he made easily $50 in less than half hour. Happy hunting!
