Hello All,
I am new to scrapping in the New York/Long Island area and am wondering if there are good spots for me to start building a consistent network (autobody shops, machine shops etc)?
Thanks.

Hello Scrappy Steve, Welcome. Yes all of those places are good spots to start picking up material. The biggest problem I always found is that they usually have people already coming in and paying them for material or picking it up for free. And most don't want to deal with someone new.
One thing I would recommend trying is to go to about 5-10 different companies in a certain field and see if you can get scrap from any of them and then try 5-10 from another field. Of course it's always nice to find spots where there are multiple shops that create scrap from different fields in one spot. Don't pass them up just because they are not in your field your hunting that day/week. Also you should always go back to the places every 2-4 weeks, if they don't sell to you, to get them use to your face. And if they do sell or give you material I would ask them when they would like you to check back for more scrap. If they tell you that a guy usually comes and picks it up on a certain day, that's a hint to start trying the day before.
I personally keep a log of everyone I go to. The day/time and the person I talk to. The address phone number email anything i can get from them. and write down any and all notes.
