    Introduction

    Greetings from Southwest PA,

I’ve noticed over the past year or so that my neighborhood has become a little more renter-oriented in nature, and that has provided the opportunity to start scrapping.

I’ll be focusing mainly on smaller appliances and e-scrap, as I only have my SUV and this will be a part-time deal to try to supplement my income and pay off my bills a little faster.

I have been lurking around here over the past couple of weeks, trying to read up on this, and specifically the e-scrap side of things. I’ll try not to ask too many questions that have already been asked, but I’m sure there will be some that I can’t find the answers to through the search function.

    Bryan

Welcome to the forum. I recommend reading the old threads not necessarily get the answer to a specific question but to broaden your knowledge. You would be surprised how many misunderstand my intent. Good luck

Mike, I know exactly what you mean. I just assumed, at first, that you just pile all the computer parts together and send them to an e-scrap buyer. Reading here enlightened me in regards to goldingers, board quality/types, cables, etc. Very glad I found this site before I started doing anything, as I would have likely left quite a bit of $$$ on the table.

Welcome to SMF from the Dakota's. As far as asking questions that have already been answered on the forum, I for one would not be concerned. The veterans on the forum may have valuable information that they did not bother to post on a previous thread because they do not need to research old threads. Personally I appreciate questions because new posts attract different perspectives from new members. Veterans will often post links to the old threads. Both are valuable.

Just so you know, I made a lot of members upset with this response because they think all of the answers are already posted on the forum. Since the commodities markets are always changing, previous responses may not apply today. I wish you luck and wish I could help you with e waste, but my knowledge is limited in this area. I am learning, not because of old threads, but because of new threads.

    Just my opinion.
Give back more to this world than we take.

Bryan412 - Welcome from sunny (hot) Southern Cal., I hope you find many of your questions about all things related to "scrap" answered. I think you will, it's a open forum and to some extent a "two way street", in that a active/contributing member, will both ask and answer questions. It is important to read the old post: 1. There is a lot of hard earned lessons, answered by those that "been there and done that". 2. Reading those post can keep you from "re-inventing the wheel", help you maximize your scrapping efforts, save you from "I wish I knew that before" mistakes. 3. It demonstrates a commitment to the forum, established/veteran scrappers made that same commitment before you, to this forum. The commitment to scrapping, doing it for many reasons, learning, acquiring techniques and information, bonds all of us to SMF. More important, that commitment enables a dialog between us, with questions, thoughts, knowledge, learning and teaching, all freely exchanged and advancing all of us.

Again welcome to SMF, read the old threads, if you can't find what you want to know, please ask questions. The questions are as important as the "answers", without no questions, there would be no answers!
