    New person to forums

Hi! I have been reading threads on the forums for a while but finally decided to register. Obviously, I've liked what I've read; I notice the members are friendly, helpful and supportive of one another and that's the sort of group that I like.

Briefly, I am not a "big time" or professional scrapper. I started saving cans a few years ago to supplement income while going through an unnecessarily destructive divorce. Still saving cans but started finding more things and taking them in. I used to save cans for a 100 year old man I met in a park, where he was trying to retrieve a few cans from the bottom of the barrel. He's since passed on, but that is what inspired me to start saving them to help myself, too.

I've also noticed a few members in the general area I'm in now, and the area I used to live in. I'm sure I'll be learning for some time to come but hope to be able to add some tips of my own eventually. Just want to say, I look forward to getting to know you better!

    Welcome from Logansport!
Determine never to be idle. No person will have occasion to complain of the want of time who never loses any. It is wonderful how much may be done if we are always doing.

I found that I had a lot more empty beer cans around too, when I was getting divorced.

Hi, everyone! Thanks for your replies, too! I feel like I "know" a few people here already, either because they are close by or they post a lot and I have been reading here for at least a good year, even though I mainly have been only turning in cans and stripped wire. I'm looking forward to learning more as I can now communicate and ask my own questions and contribute to discussions.

I've been to Logansport, a few times! More through than "to" as I'd take 24 to get to see family in Illinois. Used to live a bit east of Plymouth ... in the boondocks.

In thinking on DiamondN's post: LOL, that is so true (about the cans and divorce, though I can think of several reasons for "why"); in my case it was "guerrilla warfare" from the other side. I didn't want to fight ... just have some time to save some $$ and make rational plans ... instead, I ended up being "legal and financial hostage" for several years ... and having credit and finances destroyed ... making scrapping "necessary" when I was finally out of there.

I did learn (and still do) to do a lot of car repairs during that time ... pulling parts at the salvage yard to save money. "Saving" can be as good or better than making money, seems to me, at least at times. I've been really impressed at the level of (business and other) expertise I've seen on these boards ... when my previous notion of "scrapping" was old, rickety pickups overloaded with a bunch of "junk". Live and learn ... and be able to laugh at my own mistaken ideas. Hoping to laugh at that whole nightmare of legal "whatever" that was supposed to protect my interests ... the attorney who represented me made out a lot better than I did!

Whens the ladt time you came through? Its getting bad here in Logansport. Drugs are out of control. Most businesses open and close within a year. Thats why i serve the entire top half of Indiana. I love working in Carmel and Fishers. Wish i could live there. Plymouth and Culver area is pretty nice too. My best friend used to live in culver. Loved going up there to visit.
