Hello from the greater Chicagoland area

    Hello Everyone.

My name is Kevin and scrapping has been in my family for generations. Even though I admit I fell off the game for personal reasons. Currently working full time and saving to start back up on my own eventually.

My grandfather served in the Navy during World War II and after the war ended began his career in the scrap metal business by opening his own business that would encompass the rest of his working career. He scrapped until his death, because he tried retirement and said sitting around watching the boob tube wasn't for him. He much rather be out and about.

When I was a shorty and still in school on my summer breaks, I'd work with my grandfather and he showed me the trade. He had a good routine, clients he pick up from every week, and took me to the yard.

However, after high school, I thought that I was above that life. I know my stupid young naive attitude and actions have come back to bite me in the ass in more ways than I'd like to count. But you live and you learn. Sure I have some regrets, but no sense fretting about them now.

Now, I am saving, looking to get back into the business and even hopefully get in contact with some of my grandfather's old clients and see how they are doing. He mostly picked up from municipalities, auto shops, plumbing shops, heating and cooling, roofing and siding etc. I know it'll be a lot of hard work and persistence. I have even been thinking of keeping his business name as mine business name in his honor.

So yeah, that's my story. Thanks for taking the time to read it. I look forward to interacting with you all more as time goes on. Take care.

Welcome to the forum and thanks for a great intro. I feel you've learned from your good and bad experiences so you should profit from being a member here. Continue to read the current and old threads and it will be like having lots of grand pa's teaching you the ropes.

The best news is we have members with vastly different backgrounds and scraping experience to share. 73, Mike

Now go beat the copper out of something, Miked
