    New scrapper

Houdy, Just wanted to say hi. This forum is really helpful for a newbie like me. I just moved to alaska a year ago and I was whiffing through internet auctions and happened to get my hands on a bunch of comps. I needed a comp so I thought that out of all of them I could make myself one for just ordinary household use. Paid 50 dollars for this:

1 X lexmark prevail pro705 good condition. 2 minor scratches. with a lot of extra ink
    4 X Hp 1730 monitors
1 X Hp 1730 monitro in box NEW
    1 X Hp L1750 monitor
    3 X hp 1740 monitor
    1 X Royal shredder 10x
    1 X hp compaq Pentium D dd1ram prob 256 ?
    5 X hp compaq Pentium 4 1 gb ram 40gb hard drive
    6 X hp compaq Core 2 Duo 80gb hard drive 2gb ram
7 X Dell Core 2 Duo 2 gb ram 80 gb hard drive
    3 non funcioning pentium 4s
2 dell xeon 2 gb ram
a lot of old sound cards
bunch of cables, 20 80gb hard drives
    etc
I am a silver and gold bug and so when I figured that there was gold in computers I went berserk finding out how to retrieve it. Dont worry thats not going to happen. Im going to sell what I can at my local pawn shop. But the rest has to be scrapped. Im a computer guy so I do enjoy scrapping pcs.
    Questions
Ive heard of services that will refine what I have and send me back the gold silver etc. Can someone point me in the right direction??
Can a experienced scrapper tell me what I should be able to get out of this haul approx? escrapp only
The escrapping has been an eye opener. Im already planning to do some hobby scrapping up here in the last frontier. Bad part is I dont have much space. Thanks peeps. And keep scrapping and reusing. Its good for the environment and your pockets. Peace

Hello AK, may I call you Ak? I'll be honest...I'm going to anyways.

First...Welcome to the forums from a sandbar off the coast of NC. Glad your finding our little spot on the web helpful! That's our goal...help folks get the most they can out of their scrap..of any kind.

    To your questions.

    1. I believe the term your looking for is a toll refiner. One who can refine ewaste for the gold, silver, etc. We don't have much in the way of info on that subject here. For good reason as you surely know. We/I can point you to GRF tho..thats' the gold refining forum. I believe they have a section there like our buyer section but for folks offering refining an such. My advice would be to search there for a refiner. Not sure if the refiners we have here are still lurking/visiting, if so..maybe they can help you out a little further then just pointing you to GRF. You will want to stay away from the big dog refineries unless you got tons upon tons of stuff to have refined.

    2. I won't tackle the value of your stuff, but will point you to our buyer section. The majority have their prices listed, and should be up to date. Our buyers are good folks, so find the ones that work for you an get in touch. They don't normally bite.

Anyhow, mayhaps this has been useful..an if not..I'll at lest pretend it was. Ha!

Again welcome the forums, dig away in the archives, theres a ton of info in there.

    Good luck, and be safe!

Thanks for the heads up. I have looked into buyers here already and also shipping costs. Im going to need to send big batches. =)
