    hi from florida part time scraper

    hello;

    I am just a part time scrapper. I used to pick up things if I happened to be going by it (loan fridge or stove or what ever) and throw it in my 7by16 trailer. So I have a big trailer full of next to worthless steel just sitting there. prices are so low I saw a stove sit on the curb for about a week before some one bothered with it. used to be it wouldn't have lasted 6 hours.

    I have a bunch of #2 insulated (last time I sold some was 90cent/pound now only 50 cents) as well as a few hundred p0unds of dirty aluminum and clean aluminum waiting for a better day.

    sure glad I'm not depending on this stuff for a living

    Welcome to this site. I am a scrapper hobbyist from Mesa Az. I do it for fun and adventure. I like the hunt. I find all kinds of neat things that had been sold for scrap. I have regulars who call me so I can haul anywhere from 1500 to 2000 pounds a week. The yard I sell to is only a mile or so away from my home and my overhead is really low. It's mostly shred steel but in bulk the payout is enough to more than cover expenses even at two and a half cents a pound. I do hoard copper, insulated wire, brass and brass radiators waiting for the price to go back up if it ever does. I am stripping the insulated wire. It sells as bare bright and is at least by the yard I sell to to be number one copper. I do have about 500 pounds of it all sizes. I just bought a neat stripper on Ebay for $35 bucks that makes life easier. I quit saving aluminum. It's low as well and takes up a lot of room and weighs very little. I just sold off all I had a few weeks ago. Good luck.

    Welcome to SMF from the Dakota's. It sounds like you have a game plan which is important at this time in the scrap business. Most members are either hoarders or turning and burning. Few have divided their products into the two categories and are hoarding some and selling another. As I break things down, sheet metal is sold at a loss because of the room it requires and the fact the wind blows it across the country side. The rest is stock piled. This is my living and my love. Good luck to you.
    Give back more to this world than we take.

    I just turn and burn. I do have a bunch of little brass things that weigh a ton that I have kept just in case I need quick cash, but I will probably dump it the next time prices are up.
