New Scrapper with a variety of scrap

Hello everyone. I go by Cris and I am the Service Manager and technician at an office equipment company in Greenville, NC. I have many side gigs including but not limited to, a cake decorating business and a resale business. I'm fairly ambitious and always looking for a way to make and/or save money. I recently obtained 10 industrial size copiers with attachments I am in the process of breaking down. I scored my first free small load of equipment from an office I went in this morning to repair a machine. I seen a pile of stuff thrown in a corner that was obvious they were trashing and let me have all of it. I got 4 towers, 3 monitors, a typewriter, a printer, and 2 boxes of accessories. I've been doing my homework before I send anything off. I do have some pics and questions to ask but I'll save that for something other than my intro. I look forward to conversating with all of you and finding some good buyers for all my e-scrap!

Welcome to the forum Cris. I don't know how many customers your employer has but think about how many of them have old equipment gathering dust. You have an advantage that most don't. Not only do you have your foot in the door but you're probably dealing with people who know about the room where they keep the old equipment. It never hurts to ask.
I've been installing phone systems since 84. Almost every office I go to for a service ticket or a new install has old equipment piled up in a back room somewhere. Most of the smaller companies have no idea what to do with it. Talk to your customers and see if they have any computers or old phone systems they need hauled off. I always leave my cell number and always answer my phone. Also make sure your employer doesn't have a problem with you doing that.

Welcome from Mesa Az. I was new a few months ago to this site. It's very informative and there are lots of members who have a wealth of knowledge. I scrap for a hobby and just got back in to my old gig parting out cars. I have not dealt much with full size copiers. I do know they are heavy and are most likely about 90% shred. But good luck anyway. Have to start somewhere.

They are indeed heavy but also loaded with stuff if you break them all the way down especially if they are color machines. They have print, scan, fax, and with all the other accessories your looking at about 10 boards and 1 to 2 hard drives from 1 machine. Granted a few of them are power source pcb so they are low grade. There's about 15 or so motors, all the wiring, I pulled about 2 pounds of brass just from bearings, and then your left with all the steel and abs plastic. None of it is shred if its broken down correctly. All depends on what your after I suppose. Thanks for the welcome. I look forward of being part of the group.

Thank you for the welcome. My employer is fine with it. As long as I'm keeping his business going he could care less. lol. And I wish I would have known about electronic scrap years ago when I was seeing all this equipment piled up in people's office. One place told me last week they had just thrown it all in the dumpster the week before.
