    Hello Fellow Scrappers

Well, I just joined this site. I have been saving copper and brass for 15 years. I would get it from things I was throwing out, so I never really accumulated a whole lot. I recently scrapped my old computer. I found different metals, but I was not positive on what type of metals they were except for the copper. As I research the metals, I found so much information, especially from this site. I started getting the bug for ewaste recycling. So, here I am, I am now spending a hour a week garbage picking for anything electric, and search craigslist for free stuff. I managed to get 6 big copy machines for free from a company that was getting out of the business. I know that they are not the most profitable but it is a good start for me. My plan was to put an add it the local newspaper to solicit electronics that people did not want. However I was told by the Illinois EPA that I would have to buy a permit for 500.00 a year if I solicit goods. With this being a part time gig, I do not think I would make enough to offset the fee and time involved. So, I will continue on craigslist for know. Glad to be part of this group.

    Bartman.

Electronics recycling is a tough low profit gig that is time consuming. I would start very slow into it.

Ewaste can be profitable as well as frustrating/time consuming etc........It takes 100's of electronics each month just to make it a viable operation.........Good luck

    Welcome Bartman
I would check my local computer repair shops, IT places and stuff like that. Out of one computer shop in my small town I make about $100 a trip once a month, and thats giving away everything except CPU's, MB, RAM, Gold finger cards, HD boards. I think that about it. Are you going to get right? No but you can fill your cooler with nice cold one or six.

Welcome to the forum. Its good to know that the Illinois EPA deems someone qualified IF they give them $500. I find that money given to government agencies in the forum of a fee makes it all legal.

Do what the others have suggested and read more old and news threads. There are things that can harm you so take the time to educate yourself. 73 Mike
