G'morning. I'm a newbie, in New Port Richey, FL. I'm hoping someone can help guide me to who is fair to deal with locally, and how they operate.
I'm starting into metal casting, but I'm ending up with a lot of stuff I won't be working with for a while, or at all. It's not huge quantities, but it's taking up space I want to use, like steel food cans, computer cases, and appliance sheet metal and frames. A lot of it, like the electronics and motors from appliances, are useful to me. I know that cuts into the scrap value, but...
Do scrap yards generally trade? Like, sell them my steel and whatever, and buy some of their aluminum?
I saw on one of the local sites, they want paperwork for some metals. I took the cats off my truck when I replaced the exhaust. I don't know how that would be documented, other than my before and after pictures. Would they even be interested in the old rusted out mufflers and pipes?
I also swapped transfer cases on my truck. The old one has a magnesium shell, so I can't (won't) melt and cast it. On something like that, should I break it up first, or would they want it whole? Is there a paperwork requirement on that kind of thing too?
Thanks for your time...
Edit: I just noticed the two welcome guide PDFs. Reading them now.
