Hello from Joliet IL, I am 39, new to scrapping and work with hospice patients providing medical equipment. My supervisor gave me 17 O2 concentrator motors and figured I would make more taking them apart than selling the whole thing, that's how I got started scrapping. I also live in my deceased grandfather house which is jam packed with all kinds of various metals. He was a machinist and the basement has tons of brass, copper, steel and aluminum. There is everything from copper wire, pipes, and 20 lbs chunks of brass and copper. I also have portable oxygen tanks. I have taken beer cans to local junk yards a few times but I'm pretty sure I got ripped off. I know about the grinding test to find out if its stainless or aluminum but I never knew there are so many different types of brass, copper, aluminum and steel and DO NOT want to get taken advantage off! Any help/advise you guys can give me will be greatly appreciated.
So I'm glad I found this place and hope to learn and get honest advice from veteran scrappers. thanks
