    scrapper in Mid america

hey all, brand new to this site. Saying a quick hi. I have been thinking of starting to scrap out the precious metals at my work. I work for a farm and we have a lot of old, dead and broken crap. vehicles (deisel and gas), combines, headers, spraying rigs, box truck, farm duty electric motors, washers and dryers. Talked with the box about it and he doesn't mind me going through it all and heck most of this stuff has just been sitting there rusting for more than five years (amount of time I've worked for him). He is planning on selling the stuff for scrap eventually (hasnt gotten around to it yet) but he will be selling as is to junkyards, he wont take the time to get the copper and other valuable metals out.

Welcome to SMF and our corner of the world. In similar situations as yours I have offered the owner 1/3 - 2/3 for all the machinery (land lease deal). I remove all the non ferrous and pay them based on weight according to the original deal. I started out with a stock trailer that I hand loaded. A torch allowed me to break things down to the size to be hand loaded. Then bought a flatbed and used com-a-longs to load machinery. Next was a winch followed by a skid steer and then a loader.

To summarize, your employer might have a lot of these tools, work a deal and maybe he would be willing to have you haul it off during slow times for a larger percentage of the profits. Just a thought.
Give back more to this world than we take.
