I was walking through the woods one day and stumbled upon a large pile of RR-Spikes and pieces. About 300 pounds of metal was found is it legal for me to scrap this? It was found nowhere near a set of railroad tracks or companies. I have no clue where they are from. Is it alright for me to scrap this if so about how much is it worth? I live in Tennessee and don't really know the railroad laws.

300 lbs of iron is about $29 here. I do believe you can't scrap railroad items.

You can always take it to a local scrap yard and see what happens.

I have a different perspective than most members of the forum. First is this public property, state or federal. Second is the state laws about abandoned property. Third is this within 100 yards of an old or existing RR tracks. This is based on the RR corridor granted by eminent domain. You might find that this is considered abandoned property on public land and therefore publically owned.
Railroad spikes and plates can be sold to metal artists depending on your area.
Give back more to this world than we take.

Are posts in this thread being deleted....i think point is scrap yards will not buy this material but there are other avenues of selling material if you are rightful owner

Good Day and welcome. This would not be a normal intro, IMO you should not touch those things. Even if they can be considered abandoned property, they are still railroad spikes and that's all I'm going to say in that matter. Now back to your intro, normally your name and a little bit about you and what you do in the scrap world is what we all look for here in this tread.
