    Obsessed amateur

Hello all. I felt it was time to register to this site so I can share some of my thoughts with someone who cares. And steal some knowledge. My goal in scrapping is to hoard copper for at least ten years for when we retire. Then I will build a furnace and pour bars and sculptures. I want copper. I don't need to cash in anything that doesn't take up a lot of space. Can't get enough copper. I have been dabbling in e-waste however I haven't found much of value. Talk to you on another thread. I love copper.

Welcome. There is a ton here that you can learn about ewaste. Or, maybe you can find another scrapper here that is near you that would be willing to trade you copper for any ewaste or other scrap you might find?

Ten years is a long time to accumulate, but I know for myself, copper accumulates very slowly.
Copper, brass, and Leather. 3 of my favorite things.

    Exclamation

Just a warning: many yards will not accept "home made" copper bars without having them tested, most will not pay you full copper price ...

    Welcome from south of Chicago.

When i started scrapping, #1 copper was at $3.30/Lb. So i saved all mine thinking that it would keep going up and then it never did. The price finally dropped to $1.40 a lb and leveled back to about 2.00/ lb.

Good points on hoarding copper for future profit, but..the fella does say he DOESNT want to cash it in. Wants to save it for sculptures an the like.

To the OP...there is a lot of copper to be found in ewaste. From copper heat sinks to wire. In regular scrap there is a bunch of copper. I have no issues accumulating it and I only deal with ewaste these days. Scour the site, you'll find plenty of tips on where to look for copper. I would take Hipo's suggestion of finding someone to trade with. I know we used to have a rather popular buyer out there in KS, and a couple forum folks out that way(I'll let them introduce themselves). I know if someone asked me to trade I'd be willing to think about it depending on what they had in return.

Anyhow...welcome from a sandbar off the coast of NC, an good luck to you!

Welcome to the forum. I read your other post and may I say welcome to the debt free lifestyle. They can't take away what you don't owe money on unless its the local property tax government thugs. 73, Mike

Theres lots of copper wire in appliances and such if you feel like taking it out. More copper for the pile plus you get money from the steel. Win win.
