Hello from North eastern Illinois. Since you have been a member for so long, I would hope you have been reading past post. Especially, the ones that pertain to
e-waste. My best info to pass along to you is take the stuff apart and grade it out, look through the buyers thread and use one that offers discounted shipping, there is a great one in Ohio, and then take the junk and lower paying stuff to your local yard that would buy that stuff.
Shipping whole items is not very cost effective. grade out the motherboards, networking stuff and the processors and stuff like that, and ship those out. Most all the buyers here are great to deal with, just pick one of the buyers that has a lot of feedback and I think you will be happy.
I was shipping out 2 to 300 pounds of stuff in boxes that didn't weight over 70 pounds to Ohio and the shipping was pretty cheap, compared to what the payout was. Now a days I'm driving 100 miles one way and it only cost me about 25 bucks in gas, and my payouts are well worth it.
Most of the time the only stuff you have to have separated is the processors, all the other stuff could just be thrown in the boxes and the buyer will sort for the best payout. I always tried to sort the best I could to help out though.
Hope this helps you a little bit, just take apart those desktops and networking equipment, I wouldn't bother taking apart any laptops cause the tiny screws can be a pita.
Happy scrapping.
