    Hello from IL

Hello all. First off, thank you to all the veteran scrappers who make this forum so valuable. I was always intending to join when I needed to post a question but I've been scrapping for a few months now and every time I have a question it's already been answered. So I finally decided to just join anyways.
I just got out of the Navy a few months ago and I'm in between jobs while my wife and I renovate our new house in northern Illinois. I've been scrapping mostly as a relaxing hobby that pays, hell of a lot better then forking over piles of cash to get frustrated going golfing or something. Mostly TVs, a bunch of scraps from our electrical contractor, some random other stuff and now I've got a dehumidifier that I recently discovered from this forum is going to be sitting in my garage taking up space for God knows how long since I can't handle freon.
Anyways, thanks for all the shared knowledge and experience, happy hunting everyone.

Welcome to SMF from the Buffalo Commons and thank you for your service. We have another thread called "Roll Call" to honor those that have served our country. Please introduce yourself there as well. You have already implemented the most valuable strategy this forum provides, the access to an unbelievable amount of information in the old threads. Good luck to you and I look forward to your insights.
Give back more to this world than we take.

I am new here myself. I hope to find out if there is a way a person can recover the freon in things like your dehumidifier themselves.

Welcome to the forum from south of Chicago.

Call the yards in your area, I know of 1 that takes items containing refrigerant. They use to recover the gas, now they just pallet them up and send them out
