    Crucial missing letter "e" in your post, JJ.

    SCRAPE the coils of the transformer... scratch deep with a screwdriver point or something and see if you see shiny white or shiny red.



    If you see shiny white, that's bad news. It means the coils are aluminum. These my buyer pays maybe 10c a pound as they are. No further disassembly is worthwhile.

    If you see shiny red, that's good. That means they're wound with copper. Depending on how long it's going to take to extract that copper... how much copper there is... and how much you value your time ... these factors will tell you whether you want to stop here & sell as is for (depending on your buyer) 20-40 c a pound / or extract the copper for a little under 3 bucks a pound.
