New Member, an occasional scrapper +photo of something interesting

Hi all. Im really not a full time scrapper, mainly in winter or if I find something interesting . Found this interesting reactor/transformer. I am not really sure what kind of metal is the coil made of, its silver in color and very flexible and soft, aluminium?

Hi and welcome to the forum from Las Vegas! Your picture isn't showing but if the transformer is scrap then click on of the coils or scrap it. That'll tell you if it's copper or aluminum.

Crucial missing letter "e" in your post, JJ.

SCRAPE the coils of the transformer... scratch deep with a screwdriver point or something and see if you see shiny white or shiny red.

If you see shiny white, that's bad news. It means the coils are aluminum. These my buyer pays maybe 10c a pound as they are. No further disassembly is worthwhile.

If you see shiny red, that's good. That means they're wound with copper. Depending on how long it's going to take to extract that copper... how much copper there is... and how much you value your time ... these factors will tell you whether you want to stop here & sell as is for (depending on your buyer) 20-40 c a pound / or extract the copper for a little under 3 bucks a pound.

Thanks for the welcome guys, for some reason I get a message I am not allowed yet to post links when I try to upload the photos. Is this just a time thing or do I have to post a number of messages before been allowed to do so?

I think you need to make 10 posts before you can post links. It keeps the bots from spamming.
