newbie from Kentucky

Hey folks. I came here to learn the robes on scrapping, and cars more specifically.

Good info so far but I would like pointers from the pros about auto scrapping, so we avoid doing common mistakes.

I want to make a full time supportive income because my career might be coming to an end for personal reasons.

Thanks for any advice you all can give to get into this more smoothly.

Make sure you are licensed by your state and the federal government before you start. You can face massive fines and possible jail time if you run an "illegal" yard.
There is a lot of documentation you must keep for each vehicle you process.

We are not going to run a scrap yard but to just scrap cars at a scrap facility.

Cherrypick the good parts and recycle the rest. Rinse and repeat.

Also maybe get into scraping other items to diversify.

Any advice would be great.

What part of ky u from. I'm originally from Rockcastle, Jackson county line. I live in somerset now
I have some pretty good relationships with some core buyers. Might be able to help u out with batteries, cats, radiators, and anything else that has a core on it.

Welcome to the forum. I would think that you should be looking the other way if your just going to start out in the scrap field. Start with the "other" materials and work your way to learning about scrapping vehicles. Because it traceable personal property, there is going to be a lot of paperwork involved, not like scrapping junk piles. Depending on your local area and what you really want, look into e-waste if the demographics of your area can support it. And just make sure your state paperwork is all done right because you really don't want that knock on the door at any given time.
