You should be ok, take the low grade stuff wires, keyboards, mice and brown boards to the local scrap yard with the steel cases and other steel items they may have around the shop. Sell higher grade boards and cpu's to buyers here on the forum. Keep us posted about how it goes for you.

Welcome to the forum. From the sounds of your post, you work for a company, that is not into e-waste or any other scrap metal basis, but you want to try to get a return on a small amount of old, discarded electronic office items. I run into small businesses like this all the time. I don't want to discourage you in any way, but unless you have a constant flow of used old e-waste, your going to have a hard time see any cost effective way of getting anything in a return on waste, unless your IT department is will to refurbish the items back to working and sell them online.

From the sounds of it, you might have only maybe, and I only guessing, about 200 to 300 pounds gathered taking up space. That is really not much to see any money from especially if you add the cost of the employee that has to be payed to break it down and separate it. I would just find a local e-waste company that will pick it up from you for free and move on.

Your boss sounds like he trying to see if you can turn a negative into a positive under losing conditions. Your win is the free pickup and move on. Stick to what your company does and don't waste time on small tangents that will hurt the bottom line in the long run.

I don't mean to sound harsh in any way. I have had to deal with many companies that tried to think this way and in the end game, they call me to pickup for free instead of paying the big bucks to deal with other e-waste services in my area.

Just realy look at it this way, unless you are looking at volumes of computers and the such, I mean real quantities, you may be throwing the bad in with any possible good. I once did a figuring out at how many "complete" computers I would have to see a week at a constant flow, and would you believe that number is not small. A single, one-man operation, working from home, with little to no overhead to worry about except general items like gas and insurance of a business expence, and using a buyer from here for many items, I need to see at least 100 per week. Now some will say that is way off and others will say no way, but I would say that number is pretty close on to what I need to escape from the "low class" and enter the middle class, if you know what I mean.

So basically, if you are seeing numbers like that, then you should do the separating and ship to a buyer from here, but if you are seeing a couple a month or so, locate a free pick up location and move on to the next project.
