    Talking Garage door guy

    Hello fellow scrapers,
20 year old father of a beautiful 8 month old son in va. Introduced into the world of scraping around 2012, ive always found it to be relaxing but a rush, all at the same time. My dad (another doorman) has taught me everything i know to do. He started in '08 during the recession, when prices (atleast here in nova) skyrocketed. Recently started back a couple months ago when i got back into doing doors. Scraping old "takedown" doors, aluminum parts, #2 wire and garage door motors (atleast 5 of these usually mean a good payday, seeing as our yard of choice doesnt make us gut said motors) anyways, started getting really into it the past couple of weeks seeing as my boys gotta eat, bills dont slow down, and we need beer for the 4th. Broke my buddy into the game this weekend and took a decent haul of 1/4" cast iron piping (in a trash pile of course) from a development near home, almost the entire bed of my truck, today went to do a couple jobs up in md this morning and brought back a microwave, 10 lb chain, and 4 vacuum cleaners left in the job site dumpster. Gets a little clustered in the worktruck but im slowly learning what can and cant go with us. Turning in friday just in time for the weekend. Lets hope i can add to my truck. Anyways i was very happy to find a community like this, and i look forward to reading others experiences of good fortune.

Welcome from a sandbar south of you.

NoVa...not herd that in a long time. Haha. Is the traffic still crappy? I go back to visit what family remains there, but it gets harder and harder for me to, as I really hate sitting in traffic. Life on a sandbar has spoiled me. Traffic here only exists Memorial day thru Labor day.

Allow me to share a few tips...

Read, read, an read more while your here with us. You won't get a better education in the world of scrap metal and ewaste. These folks know their ****, and are some good people.

2nd tip...Have fun while your doing this. Good way to make new contacts/friends. Good way to come up with a bit of extra cash. An with a wee one..I'm sure that's always a good thing. An hey..can't fault anyone for needing frosty cold beverages for the 4th, or 7th, or 28th...err..yea..back on topic...

3rd...Get a cooler if you don't already have one. You'll understand in time I'm quite the fan of coolers and the frosty beverages of all types they contain.

Welcome to the forum again, an good luck to ya.
