New to the forum

Hi everyone. Just want to introduce myself. New to scrapping and looking for information at this point. Been picking up scrap for a couple weeks and starting to accumulate quite a bit. Next week is clean up week. I have been reading a little and understand what yall say about accumulation. I'm retired and looking for something to get me out of the recliner all day.

I'm a churn and burn recycler. I "accumulate" only to the point of it making sense to take it to somewhere and turn it in. Having stacks and stacks of items that are in various states of breakdown or "stockpiling" in hopes of "getting to it someday" is one pitfall you will want to avoid.

Thanks for replying. It is hard to figure out whether to put the washing machine in shred or break it down. Or pool chairs that are 75% aluminum.

You will learn as you go. Keep the mindset as this: "How do I clean this to maximize my money?"
Washing Machine: Take off any aluminum you can, gut all the wire you can. Check motor prices in your area: If Shred is .06 and Motors are .08- ask yourself- is it worth the extra 2 cents per pound to get it out? If not- leave it.
Pool Chairs: Cut off the straps and or webbing, toss in the trash, now it is 100% clean sheet. Physically break the chair down at the welds to knock them down to make compact to haul, once you have enough aluminum, trip to the yard, get paid. Start over.

Wash.. rinse.. repeat. (Pun totally intended)

Welcome to the forum from Las Vegas! In addition to sledge and miked's very astute advice, recommend checking the buyers and sellers threads too. There is at least one buyer there who buys intact circuit boards from appliances. There's a lot of opportunity if you take the time to learn the possibilities

When you get stumped.

Consult with said cooler.

No matter the beverage, afterwards you'll know what to do, an if not..hey you had a cold one!(Any beverage is ok, it does not have to be an adult beverage but if it is, you earn 10 goat points. You may redeem these points to Hobo at any time for a picture of a goat. )

Welcome from Georgia! I agree with what is stated above. Read through the old forums, and maybe even become a scrap room member to access certain private only areas. You will find lots of info that is pertinent and helpful. In fact, I still take some time every now and again to read through more old forum posts. I find so much digital gold on here, it definitely helps me make more money scrapping- almost as if it were real gold I was turning in for money!

Look at the reading as a treasure hunt.

As Stargate mentioned...digital gold(I like that term, someone coin it quick!). You'll find a lot of stuff but every know an then your going to find that nugget of gold that is going to help make you successful. I had to read a lot about various things I didn't do, or didn't know about when I first found the forum. Nowadays though all that reading comes in handy even it's something I don't do everyday, or even often.

Besides all the knowledge you get some wonderful wit, bad jokes, awesome quotes, learn more about our fellow members, etc etc etc etc.

Learning is fun! - Some PSA somewhere on how much fun learning is.
