APA is one of the registered buyers on this forum and you can see his thread for reviews of his service, pricing and expertise. My own experiences with him have been nothing but stellar. Additionally, if you search the forum archives you'll find a lot of threads with various information and experiences with converters. The old threads in general are worth reading and will help you maximize your profit and efficiency when dealing with any scrap. Welcome to the forum and I look forward to see how your converter project goes!
Sounds like this is...
I've never done business with APA, as my wife would get upset if I sold the cats. From my time on the forum though he's always been quite helpful an willing to help. Plus if he was a bad buyer...it'd show on his thread. We don't really keep quiet on here when it comes to bad experiences, regardless of who the buyers is or how long they've been here.
Good luck to the op an everyone else in the thread.
Fight to stay cool, not each other. Nobody wins my friends.
Sirscrapalot - Rolling rolling rolling...gone.
I love foil converters, these can be sheared into bits then tumbled to remove the precious metals. The only chemical used is water for dust control and rinsing.
The precious metals settle out as a fine powder and soon settles out from the water as a cement, roast the cement at a high temperature for a few hours to burn off the carbon.
The remaining foil scraps are stainless.
I can attest to APA as being fair, honest and knowing his business . I do a very small amount of cats from time to time and I send him pictures- he sends me a quote. Once I sent him a converter that was missing some honeycomb ( unbeknownst to me ) but he still honored his quote for the lot. I'd say that was pretty darn nice of him. And yes, he is in business to make a profit . That's called Capitalism. Love it or leave it.
Remember... wherever you go... there you are
The refinery I deal with now gives me my assay sample every batch.
The Metallix salesman told me some story about their “5 sample assay process” by their “5 chemists”. I said “hey could you mail me a sample of my material?” The salesman replies “No! It’s contaminated once it leaves our door!”
I do not have the capability to accurately take an unbiased sample of my batches and yes Metallix is not required to send me an assay sample.
I asked Metallix if I could personally oversee my batches and sampling; I was told “we can’t allow you to do that at our facility.”
