Cool Tinkerer looking for a place to get things from

Hey all, I'm just a tinkerer located near the fastest half mile race track. I like to tinker and work on things in my spare time nothing commercial or for profit intended. While I can work on almost anything scrap yards where I could get things to work on are few they like to get the part for me, but I don't know what I want until I find it. This can range from an old anvil to a busted welder, to old motors, and occasionally a computer and tools. If you would allow me to roam your yard and find things to work on I pay then and there and probably just be a few things at a time. My zip is 24202 if you are close by let me know. Thank you

There have been some changes over the years. A friend of mine is a respected artist that makes his sculptures from old metal. Much like yourself ... he needs to wander the yard until he happens upon that one piece of metal that sparks his creative talent.

Twenty or thirty years ago that really wasn't a problem. Nowadays ... it's rare that any yard will let him in. It's mostly for safety and liability reasons.

Ever seen the American Pickers series on TV ? If not ... check it out. Those old hoarders have all kinds of things squirreled away that would be fascinating for a tinkerer.

Maybe yard sales, estate sales, and auctions in your area as well ?

Some pick and pull yards are attached to regular scrap yards. Those may be worth a try.

Also getting to know the management may help.

One time I bought a gaylord of mixed computer wire from my core buyer because he didnt want to pay his crew to sort it. This was when gold ends were in style. I made a decent profit
