Hello to all you fine folks!

Hey there! I’m just a girl from TX wanting to make extra income and possibly store precious metals for the world meltdown, no pun intended. 😂

I’m super new to the scrap world, but I have been reading here, there, and everywhere for the past three weeks or so. My bf and I went dumpster diving recently, and there was a bunch of escrap thrown in. I made an off comment about making some extra $ from it: it was initially a joke, but the thought stayed in my mind. I started reading and researching, and I decided to get into it. For now it is supplemental income, in fact, I haven’t even made my first “run” yet to cash anything in.

I’ve acquired a lot of things from dumpsters, trash days, friends, and side of the road finds. It’s certainly been helpful reading all of the posts on here: I’ve learned a lot.

I’m not sure where this will go for me, but I know it’s a long term commitment. I recently purchased a wire stripper, and I’m looking into a gas furnace.

Looking forward to all the wisdom within this group!

just FYI I would NOT melt stuff down if your goal is to make money. If it interests you and/or you want to do it as a hobby, definitly do it. But most yards will not take melted down materials because they cannot be sure of the metal composition and for all they know you could have melted 5% of lead into your copper bar..... so, I would not go down the melting path unless it interests you.

As far as e-waste, that is what I am trying to specialize in. Once you get the hang of it its easy to do and can be very profitable, the biggest issues though are either finding a local buyer that buys ewaste at a good price (there are none with-in 3hrs of me, at least not that Ive found yet) OR getting enough supply that you can pallet ship and make a profit off of it. I never thought Id ever have enough to fill a pallet but it stacks up pretty quick actually and I have just recently sent off my second.

Good luck and welcome, may the scrap/garbage gods smile upon you favorably.
