Hey everyone! I'm Mike in Boston and recently started scrapping again as a hobby after realizing how much I missed it. I got out of the Army in 2012 after 10 years on active duty and did not have good luck finding work that A: supported my family and I, and B: allowed for a good work/life balance. I ended up working with some old neighborhood friends who were working in junk removal, demolition and scrapping. I hustled along with them and ended up making enough for rent and food. My favorite was the 2 or 3 nights we'd go out and curb hunt for metal. I've always enjoyed gambling and it seemed to scratch the same itch. Fast forward 8 years....
I now have a great job that I dreamed of having when I was a kid. I've been a Boston firefighter for about 6 years now and am greatful for it every day. My wife graduated college and has been working in medical research and doing very well and was recently accepted into PA school. Through a few hits of chance, I recently found myself driving a borrowed pick up home one night on trash night and saw some ac's and other "treasure" on the curb. I pulled over, threw it in the back and prepped it for the yard the next day. I was hooked again. I love the excitement of the "hunt" and enjoy the relaxation and satisfaction of taking the stuff apart. It's truly a hobby that I enjoy. Good thing I have fun with it because prices are definitely different than they were in 2012/2013! Anyways I'm happy to be back at it and look forward to being part of a community of like-minded folks. I plan on sharing pictures and stories here, Instagram and hopefully YouTube someday! I look forward to getting to know you folks and learn more about this hobby/field/trade/game or whatever it is to you!
Cheers,
-mike
