New member from Montana - Hi

I just ran into this forum while googling a question on escrap.
We run a recycling yard in western Montana processing anything metal and nonradioactive.
We've been around about 10 years.
We do a lot with Cat converters and nonferrous but we are very inexperienced with Escrap.

We currently just stuff printers, computers, and other electronics in cars and crush it as shred.

I'm here to learn about Escrap and anything else.

    My name actually is Guy

We purchase laptop computers and many components for greater than scrap value. We offer a shipping reimbursement program.replies

Yeah, putting it in cars really doesn't make much money. Greetings from Wyoming, by the way. I work on the "More than Scrap Value" side of things. If you knew what some of the stuff you've put in cars was worth, you'd want to cry. But, don't worry- we've all done it

Printers/copiers/fax machines, I end up throwing in with shred too, just too much plastic and parts to deal with taking apart.... UNLESS they are super old, then they likley have enough IC chips and other goodies in it to take apart.

Desktop Computers and servers are the main thing I like to scrap, and ewaste is my main focus....

For now I would say any computers, router, server, laptop, etc you or your guys find/get, just put them in a pile somewhere if you have room! Until you figure out what you want to do with them. Even if you dont do anything with the laptops at all but box em and ship them off, they are worth $0.80/lb to a buyer on here..... desktops I think around $0.25/lb or more.

Ram which is super easy to take out of desktop computers in a few seconds and are worth around $19/lb to some buyers on here.....
Depending how much effort you want to put in the motherboards, harddrives, psu, cpus, finger cards, all have value, and pretty good value, more than most non-ferrous stuff.... its just a bit of work to learn what all you need to do and seperate, and you have to run the numbers of if its worth it to pay someone to take stuff apart, or if you want to accept stuff taken apart for different prices, plus depending on where you are there could be environmental permits or stuff you need to do to be able to recycle ewaste legally (although in montana I highly doutb it lol)..... lots and lots of info on here, just gotta dig for some of it

if you get enough quanity of it it can definitely be worth it.... but if you are only get like 5-10 computers a month, probably isnt worth the trouble for you.
