Hello, my name is Heather (StormyRocker).
I became interested in scrapping for profit around October of last year 2019. The two main factors that led me to Scrapping are:
1) I am acutely aware of the World Refuse problem and have incorporated recycling, reuse, and/or repurpose strategies in my personal life/neighborhood for decades. I will continue to rescue any decent, safe, needed items I see being sent to our landfills, clean it (sometimes repair or mend it) if needed and divert them to charities, homeless, thrift, freecycle, etc. IT IS A LABOR OF LOVE. One thing I see being thrown away alot is e-waste (and appliances) and I haven't really ever been able to do much to keep them from going to landfill as it's more economical to replace them than repair them. After quarrying Google and watching videos, I got excited about scrapping.
2) I need income. Circumstances being I recently moved to the West Coast of Florida and have not found suitable employment (that is in the 3 months prior to Covid-19 ..since the pandemic started... I have struggled with the decision of whether or not I should return to a traditional job or if it's too much to risk at this time). So, I'm trying to stay afloat by other 'gig type' means. It makes sense to me to incorporate scrapping as it doesn't require much in-person social activity and it improves my ability to support a cause that's important to me. I hope to make at least $400 a month from scrapping so I am trying to learn all I can about what is worth the time to scrap, what it takes "tool wise" to scrap those items, and of course how to maximize profits.
I am really happy I found Scrap Metal Forum, thank you, for allowing me to join your community.
