    Hello from Ohio

Hi there! I'm a mom from Ohio got hooked on scrapping 2 years ago when my grammas old house was tore down and they left the scrap behind. My dad said to take it up the road (I never knew it was there or that scrapping/recycling was big business) so we did and they gave us money! Light bulb went off over my head - I give them junk and they give me money! Soooooo........slowly I got into scrapping and now its become an obsession and taken over my life. My moms friends call her if they have something and my dad will go pick it up until I get there. Every Sunday I scrap in their town and they take turns going with me as spotters. My kids now come home and tell me if they saw something (as will one neighbor) and one will pick things up for me if he has an empty trunk or even call me with an ''Is this worth anything?''
I felt funny doing it the first time but not any more because it IS hard work, very hard work and it buys groceries or any tools I might need or think I might need and gas that doesn't have to come out of the household budget and allows me to work from home basically. If I'm not working in my yard or house I am either out scrapping or breaking things down in my garage - I even went and got extra recycling bins our town uses and use them to sort small metals I have broken down and aluminum. I also have compiled a tool for tool match that I keep at my parents house when I work from there so I dont have to haul tools back and forth, just stuff from garage sales that didn't cost an arm and a leg. I have learned a lot but still learn something new every now and then!! I look forward to checking out the rest of this site and how cool is this - I never thought I would be joining a scrap forum! lol!

    Welcome, newattitude. Enjoy.
People may laugh at me, but that's ok. I laugh all the way to the bank.

Welcome Cindy....hope you stick around...a lot of women come and go......hope you don't go !! Looks like you have the "scrappin' fever" pretty bad though. You have certainly come to the right place. You'll probably kick yourself a few times when you learn how much more you could have made "if you'd only known", but try not to. Just learn and enjoy..and remember Mick's motto !

Hello! I was amazed at how many woman scrap now. When I first started it was mostly guys dropping stuff off, now I see lots of woman when I go and some are my moms age! Like I said, I felt funny the first time but after he handed me the money I got over it pretty quickly! Lol! My mom says now I have them hooked on spotting because they can't go anywhere without being on the lookout for stuff!! I do hope to learn more because I know I don't know everything and this is fantastic there is a site for scrappers! Nice to meet everyone!

Right approach newattitude, having other people scout, find, call, collect, and hand it over to you. Good network started there.

I'll say welcome firsthand, and so you do not spend a ton of money you don't have, go to wal*art and get their do-it-yourself business cards(by Avery) you can print on your computer. A hundred costs around 3.50 to make but the cheap advertising will go a long way with contacts, they'll hang onto the cards usually. I'm getting calls a month later from one weekend of passing cards at yard sales. Here's mine I did at home and it seems to get a lot of attention.
