Hi all scrap metal experts. I'm new here and was attracted by the thought that there must be some awesome knowledge and expertise in this forum.

I'm a retired geologist with a new passion and research interest in use of metals in early civilizations. My current focus is on coin recycling in Later Roman times- around 350-360 CE. The prevailing opinion is that silver was recovered from older copper and brass/bronze/billion coinage.

I'm interested in trying to place some economics on this. For example, what would be the processes available to the Romans and what minimum silver content would be needed to make this economic?

Any thoughts or suggestions on where to look for info would be most welcome.

Compliments of the Season,
LeighB
