Dee said that I should post up in here. To tell the truth, I didn't see the "Introduce Yourself" forum before. I'm from central Florida and have been scrapping about a year and a half on my own. But my scrapping goes back over 20 years.
In the late 1980's I helped a friend scrap cars. He had already been doing it off and on for many years with his father. One of my first experiences was towing a junk car with a bumper clamp. He steered the car while I pulled it with his Mazda pickup. Something happened. The car started to turn and took the truck with it, nearly flipping both of them. It was pretty scary, and the last time we ever did it like that. He moved on to bigger and better things and I had no interest in doing it myself.
In 2008 my friend was back scrapping again. He told me about all the money he was making, but it didn't really phase me. I gave him loads of stuff to haul off over the next couple of years. Finally I realized I was throwing money away. I started paying attention to the stuff on the side of the road. I hauled my first trailer load in a month after I started. I was hooked.
Since then I have several people and business that save their scrap for me, and call when they need it picked up. It's still just a side business, so I don't do the amount most of you do. But it's fun. The thrill of finding a BBQ grill is almost more than getting paid for it once it's broken down.
