So. Maybe, it's just one of us is alive in Memphis, TN.
I have been recycling most of my life. As a kid, growing up on a small farm, my Dad taught me about composting --- think cow manure, garden waste, table scraps, etc going into the composting pile. Organic gardening so to speak. Then in the 8th grade, I was voted President of the Ecology Club and we had our first county wide Spring Clean-Up about 1972ish; just 2 years after the establishment of Earth Day.
During the past 4.5 years, I've been involved in renovation of old Mercedes cars and the sale of used car parts. Yet, another way to keep valuable resources out of the landfill and also from getting crushed. I'd rather re-sell good used parts than let them go to the crusher.
And now, I find myself still involved somewhat in the automotive world, but also branching out into anything diesel --- generators, water pumps, cars, trucks, air compressors, etc. What brought me to this forum was a search for
scrap prices. It's impossible to find scrap prices online for the Memphis market, so I'm starting calling the scrapyards. My current recycling efforts are focused on copper wire, aluminum cans, and painted aluminum sheet.
My next profession might be to own a scrapyard or possibly a combination scrap & junkyard (autos).

Edit on 08/10/2011 --- Forgot to add that I'm a full fledged diesel head, so if you get any scrap like a diesel engine, generator, car, or truck, run it by me. I might be interested in buying it. I can at least provide you some insight on how to sell it for more than the price of scrap.
