Hey there folks!
Been stalking this forum for a few months, and figured I should get with the program and introduce myself.
31 years old, married, toddler at home. Graduated with in Associates in the health care field this May. Striking out at finding work.
Have scrapped off and on for a decade, but much more the past six months. Trying to focus on e*waste, because I find it the most enjoyable, but lately have discovered that I face stiffer competition by the day. For example, in the past month, I have noticed 3 new places in town with signs/banners saying "Computer Recycling Drop Off Point" or something similar. My main thing was hitting garage sales and just asking people if they had any junk computers, and today I had 3 different people tell me that I was the second or third person to ask them that today.
I take what I can get to contribute to the family bills and gas tank. Some neat scores recently have been a USP (uninterruptable power supply) that i got for a dollar at a garage sale that yielded $20+ in copper, steel, and battery weight and a cast iron sink with all brass fittings i spent 30 seconds stopping to grab.
A favorite form of scrapping is at the shooting range. I like to go and shoot a bit, and let wifey pling away for an hour while I pick up brass. I usually grab at least 6-10 lbs, and try to shoot much less than that
Today I took a plunge and paid for scrap. I gave a church $40 for two larger sized central AC units. They told me that the AC guys drained the
freon out, so I should be good to go! Never done one of these before, so I will let you all know how it turns out. If anyone can guide me to a guide or can offer advice, I am all ears.
Thanks again for being part of such an awesome and valuable forum, and I hope you all hit a motherload this weekend!
