First post. Hello
Hello to everyone on the site. I've been lurking for a few weeks and figured it was time to join the party. I'm amazed at the amount of info that can be found here and the number of people that take the time to share their knowledge and experience. I hope to be able to return the favor from here on. My name is Dan and I spend the majority of my time in Southern New Jersey. I started scrapping about 8 years ago. for the first few years I got my metal for free from trash picking and my job (auto mechanic). The money was then used to pay extra bills and fuel my fishing addiction. A few years into my scrap career I took on a business parter, my best friend and fishing partner. We then funneled our profits into our "fishin fund" to be able to travel the eastern seaboard and do all the fishing we could before wives, kids, and mortgages got in the way. When the economy dropped out and gas prices went up the amount of competition on the street exploded. We gave up on picking for the most part. Everyone wanted a piece of the pie. We found the best way to acquire metal was to buy it. We started to treat our scrapping as more of a business and have been getting bigger ever since. Currently we are trying to build the capital and gain some more knowledge to establish our own scrap yard. We deal in most ferrous and non ferrous metal, E-scrap, batteries, catalytic converters, and other automotive cores. We are also interested in possibly expanding into plastic and cardboard. That about sums up my scrapping background so far. Hope y'all enjoyed the read. Thanks for letting me be a part of this great site.
