Introducing: Haulin Heiny

This looks like a pretty good forum and community.
I've been doing scrap on and off for 20 years. I did it as semi-serious moonlighting back in the early 90's. Prepared steel was $60 to $80 back then. I felt good if I had a load that broke $120 (steel & misc). I stopped moonlighting in the mid 90's but could never totally wuit scrapping. It gets in your blood like gold fever. Every once in a while there'd be a pile that was just too easy and valuable to resist.
In October 2010 I got layed off from my mechanical drafting job / career. I did unemployment and more house spouse stuff over the winter. In the spring I just had to get working. With scrap prices holding up and my experience, this was an easy first choice. I do scrapping about .5 FT and am a cemetery grounds keeper .5 FT. There have been many times this summer I wished I could get out from doing the cemetery work to do more scrapping. Its way better money and way more fun. I love working out of my own home.
In the early 90's I had an '86 F250 4x4, reg cab, with the straight 6 engine. That thing could go anywhere and do anything. Its the one vehicle in my whole life that I regret getting rid of.
We are a family of 5; twin boys at 15 and a girl at 13. I married my high school sweetheart and she has kept me around for 26 years so far. So far the only downside to me doing scrapping is that somedays my 48 year old body gets a little achey.
