Hi there, been reading for a while and decided to join today. I've recently started saving scrap for myself though i'm only in a 1 bed flat so have little storage room atm! Dad is a plumber/heating engineer so i always gave the scrap to him -he saves it all for a few years before cashing it in. With prices much higher these days he now has to park a car in front of the garage to stop scrapmen from breaking in and making off with said goods. Neighbours tell him they waited round the corner and studied when he left the van and went out in the car. Then when he came back from visiting his mums they emptied his garage in broad daylight, so thats why he is much more cautious these days. In fact right now hes downright scared cos last time he didnt have much but now well he does and a few months ago a few drove past whilst he was sorting it -their eyeballs popped out -somewhere around 15t of copper/brass and a little lead. He doesnt keep aluminium whereas i used to and have started again -he doesnt have the room.
I remember the days when we lived at another house and just used to throw it behind the shed, leave it out on the lawn for a couple of weeks whilst cutting the solder and brass fittings off. Those days are long gone.
Anyways, i guess thats the reason i'm interested in it even though i'm a Chemistry teacher by profession. Just thought i'd let you know what a lovely forum you guys have here and how nice it is to be confirmed that dishonest scrappers are not the norm'
