    New to SMF - Introduction

    Greetings Everyone,

My name is Bill (go by Scribeman01) and reside in SE Wisconsin. My general focus is the recycling (or revitalization) of computer components, parts, wiring but meander also into other metal salvage. Currently, this is a hobby or "fill-in" activity, but I do make calls & pass flyer's out to get get the word out. I have been doing this now for approximately a year - - lots of work and sweat equity - - but feel that I can be getting a better return for all of the efforts invested. I deal locally, but have been following members that ship to Boardsort & other persons on this forum. Because prices appear to be dropping, I am nervous about working with someone out-of-state (especially where spontaneity is paramount) and that I am currently sitting on 50-75 lbs. of (primarily) high grade boards waiting for a reply. I love this forum because there is a lot of trial and error that persons are willing to share here & to help someone else that is starting out. That said - - I look forward to be a contributing member to this excellent forum - - - special thanks to the persons (enablers) that make this Forum possible for all of us. :-) Best, Bill

Welcome Bill! My name is Cindy and when I first started out I didn't know about e-cycling and could make myself sick over how much I threw away basically as crap scrap before I learned there was a market for it. Happy e-cycling!

Thanks Cindy & glad you brought this up. As many of us have self-taught ourselves a lot of the ins & outs, we began to realize that "lemonade can be made from lemons" - and that we are pro-actively earning money in a "win-win" proposition. But there was a time not so long ago, where it was still legal to take TV's, computers & florescent tubes to the curb & the incentives for the disposer & scrapper were not as well defined. Also, this is an excellent opportunity for those who have had their work hours cut or eliminated, or need to come up with extra cash for the health insurance premiums that still rise carte blanche. I hope that we all take satisfaction in learning and earning from something we developed & accountable to ourselves for our forward motions. I have read many of the posts in the threads and just blown by where fellow members are finding scrap treasures -- everything from old lightning rods to bullet shells to abandoned vehicles & machinery in the deserts. But understand what you are saying but that we credit ourselves with where we have been and have the potential to go. That is emulated by the "family" feeling on this great forum. :-)

LOL - is that grape juice dripping from that welcome? I can see there is a fun-loving bunch here - - and I have gone thru more of my share of band-aids since starting this. :-)

Bandaids? What are those? I typically use electrical tape. 50 cents a roll.

LOL - I'll check that out. :-) Do you think they have those "upside down keyboards" at Goodwill? I won't scrap the wires on those. LOL
