    Hello :)

Hello all, glad to find this forum.

My name is Kleis and I own a small company doing import exports.
I have no idea about scrap but I would like to learn as much possible if you could help me out.
Can you show me a direction where to find some detailed info for types of ferrous scrap HMS1 HMS2, E3, E40 etc?
Is very frustrating for me to get an email with technical descriptions, sort descriptions & terminology and not being able to understand them... I hope you can help out to change that
I have many questions but before asking I think would be better to get some information to read.

    Thank you in advance
    Kind Regards

    Kleis

There are several websites with metal classifications. This will get you started: http://scrap.basic-metals.com/metals1012.html
People may laugh at me, but that's ok. I laugh all the way to the bank.

Hello again and thank you for your replies.

Currently the products I am dealing with are completely irrelevant to scrap and unfortunately things are not going too good (Food and beverage industry).
I was asked by some personal contacts to find them suppliers of HMS scrap since I had some reliable contacts on this field and thought not to waste this opportunity at least without trying to explore it.
But since I haven't had any experience on the subject I am trying to gather as much info as I can in order to understand what I am talking about.
As I mentioned above my interest is for HMS scrap categories-types.
I am located in Greece and the local supply is not much, the majority of scrap yards don't export they sell it locally since the quantities they gather are not enough in order to get involved in exports.

    Any comments very welcomed
    Thank you again

Ok. You might want to start with the very basics. HMS stands for Heavy Melting Scrap (or Steel). ISRI is the acknowledged standard for grading metal. With that start here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heavy_melting_steel

Truthfully, I would advise you NOT getting involved with this until you have a very good grasp of the importing business. But, that's not advise most want to hear. There is a buyer and seller section on this site you could list with. Also, here's a site dedicated to the import and export of scrap metal. Be prepared to put out some money for listing service:http://www.recycleinme.com/

Your mailbox is full. Anyway, what I said was send me details if you want but I don't know how much help I'll be. I've never brokered an overseas deal.

(To anyone who cares - this follows several PMs. No - I'm not doing the brokering.)
