    Lady with A Truck

I am a 53 year old single woman who's been hauling scrap full time for 6 years and I LOVE it!
I spent 12 yrs in banking, another 12 in office management, even ran a daycare for 5 years. Then I went back to college and upgraded my office skills by taking a year of full time classes in Business Management and Marketing and graduated with a 4.0 GPA. and realized I really hated being locked up in an office all day. I had done landscaping for extra cash while in school but needed a truck.
Then I got offered an interim job driving the delivery truck for an auto wrecker, and loved it!

As that was winding down I knew I wanted my own truck and thought I'd pay for it by doing landscaping, rubbish removal, deliveries, anything but haul scrap! There was no way I wanted to be associated with a profession with such a bad reputation, beside I was a "giirly girly" and knew nothing about scrap. But as it turned out people kept offering me scrap jobs, the bills were piling up so I relented and took a job cleaning up a yard of a man retiring from the garage door business. I was hooked!!

It was quite the learning curve but I've done ok and I have never enjoyed a job more. Every day is a treasure hunt, you never know what you'll find, who you”ll meet and you pick your own hours. I love to meet new people and chat, my dogs ride with me every day and I love being known as the Lady Witha Truck. It”s all I do now. My mother still thinks I should get a "real" job haha but I stopped listening to my mom years ago!

    question

Great to meet you, Lady and thank you for the wonderful post.
I travel with my mutts, too. Can I ask you a question? I'm in my fifties, single and female as well. What do you do about the really heavy stuff? Appliances e.g. Do you have a dolly? I drive a SUV and am a relative newbie so I very interested in learning the ins and outs of handling large or heavy pieces. (Also have very bad knees). Any advice on logistics would be welcome.

Scrapette, you might consider getting a rechable angle grinder. I don't own one but believe they may be expensive but it could help on the spot cutting. This could allow you to pick up larger objects.

To lady with a truck the only thing that could improve you is if you also become lady with a gun. Welcome to the forum, Mike.
