Hey All,
First off, thank you for having me and reading my introduction.
I am not only new to "scrapping" but also forums, so bear with me. I have spent the last 3 or 4 days reviewing the sections and checking out the community. Needless to say, I feel as if I've stumbled on a gold mine for all things recycling related.
I work as a Relocation Consultant for a major branded moving company in Bismarck, ND. Several years ago our warehouse provided the logistics handling for a cellular company switch over. This netted about of 1000lbs of thick gauge insulated copper wire that we just stored away. My boss finally got sick of it sitting around and told me if I could have it out by the next Monday it was mine. I dipped my toe in the water and grabbed a razor knife, heavy gloves and a plopped down on my couch to kill time. After about 4 evenings of baseball games and mindless work I pulled in about $70 and was hooked!
I own a car, an older pick-up and have access to a small utility trailer and TONS of free time (read: not married, no kids.) If I find a huge score I can also snag a shop semi and a 40ft flatbed trailer occasionally. I'm pretty handy (grew up with a dad that a shop wiz) and have a decent work area in my garage with a growing collection of tools. I travel the entire state for work to the tune of about 350 miles a week to every other city in ND and cannot believe the lack of "scrappers" in the area. Our local classified site has about 20 computer towers for giveaway at any given time. I'm still getting my bearings but I have a feeling this hobby could be a nice little income generator.
I'll keep everyone posted on my adventures and will certainly scour the forum for tips and advice. Thanks in advance!
Steve
