Everyone on this board was young once. I can remember people telling me at a young age I couldn't do this I couldn't do that. All you gotta do is prove them wrong. I think at the age of 14 though most people look at it as child labor. I apparently was told at a young age I couldn't work with my dad at a yard because I was to young. LOL. I guess I had to sit in the truck. I was so young I don't remember it. One day it will all click like a lightbulb and scrapping will be simple. At least that's how its supposed to work I think.

Welcome, your age does give you at least one advantage though, many time older people are looked down on, criticized, or outright disrespected when pulling items from a trash can or dumpster.

Being as young as you are, they are likely to see a kid being a kid. Little do they know you could be making decent money! Lol and good luck with that guitar!

You have to be 18 to take anything to the yard.

I would think at age 14 he would need his mom or dad to drive him there anyway!

That's what I was thinking, no state ID yet.

You want a real good idea Mike? Save ALL of it until your 16th bday, then buy a nice car. Should be easy enough. What do you need money for right now anyway? When you look back at everything you made and how you wasted it, you will kick yourself in the ass.

He is wanting a guitar. I think he is doing great! He's not asking to be handed a guitar but is willing to earn it.

So I think by the time he turns 16 he will need a van for the band instead of a car.

    Good going Mike, good luck.

I used to haul trailer loads of scrap in when I was 16/17, Never once got asked for an ID, and always got paid cash. However, I went to an auto junkyard.

I took my first scrap money and bought a sweet stereo system at 15. Well I thought it was sweet. I bought the best one at Circuit City. Haha man I miss the good old days. Both of my experiences are in the trash pile the stereo is long gone and so is Circuit City. Just goes to show material items only last so long but love can last forever. Man do I love scrapping.
