    Hello From NorCal

Hey, I've been lurking since I found this place about a month ago, now I'm a member. I'm from a little hillbilly town called Magalia, CA and have been scrapping for about 3 1/2 years now. Mostly cars an car parts but also handle random scrap metal too. Butte County is one of the poorest counties in the state so there's decent competition here with no work and lots of tweekers looking for anyway to get their next fix.

If you're curious about prices here the bottom is falling out after a strong year up to a month ago. The scrap yard I started going to in April was at $200/ton for tin and autos for most of that time until recently they're down to $150 currently. I also sell complete cars to Pick N Pull auto dismantlers (they're owned by Schnitzer Steel) and cars that I was getting $450 each for most of the year are only pulling $350-$375 or so. I say cars because this auto dismantler pays based on make/model and completeness and not by weight. So if I get a truck that has no motor or tranny they want to give me a stripped car price (used to be $200 for stripped car bodies but down to $100-$125) but obviously the truck body still weighs 3000 pounds or more and I get more taking to regular scrap yard. And vice versa if it's a little honda CRX that's been stripped down I get more from Pick n Pull. It's a good setup just sucks that prices are down a bit. They were a lot lower when I first started though so I guess I shouldn't be complaining too much, lol.
