    Cool Hello from Illinois

I have been reading alot of different topics on your site. I have absorbed alot of imformation from on here the past week. Thank you for that. I am new to all of this. I have taken in a load of steel so far for what I thought was a decent pay out. I like working with my hands and tearing $hit up lol. So I am going to start small and work on crts and tvs to get my hands wet. There seems to be plenty out there to be had for free. I posted an add on CL looking for crts. Just this weekend I pulled in 35 of them. For now I am not going to take anymore in to see if this is for me or not. I have a full time job and just plan to recycle/scrap on the side. Thank you all for the good posts. Keep them coming and I will keep reading.

Welcome. Good to see someone else from Illinois, I was feeling lonely on here. Just a warning on the TVs and Monitors, make sure you have a source to get rid of the glass tubes once you've stripped the good stuff. In Illinois, some of the Goddwill stores will take them, but not all. Most other places will charge you to dispose of them. If yours does, tell them they are non-working up front and that will make them much happier. Also, if bringing in a large amount at once, call ahead and make arrangements with the manager and he'll be much happier than if you show up unexpectedly and they don't have the staff on hand to unload.

Thank you all. I am in the peoria area and from what I see on the internet about goodwill is that they wont take them. I plan on calling them on Monday just to be sure. I don't really want to landfill them if I can find someone that will take them. I still have alot of investigating to do. I am also thinking about the whole pay a retail store 10 bucks to take it and get a 10 buck gift card from them. I am sure there is something I will want lol

Thank u. Just went and checked it out. I believe peoria is big enough to have someone out there to take the glass. That seems to be the biggest issue when dealing with crt monitors and tvs. In the mean time I will just strip them down and look for a taker for the glass. If I find someone who will take it in my area I will post it up.

Thank u all for the pointers. I just got off the phone with Goodwill. They said they will take my stripped crt monitors. The nice part about it is that I drive past them everyday to and from work. Keep up the scrappen and good reads. Jim
