    Hello from Winnipeg, MB

Hello, my name is Brent, AKA "I29North". Why I29North? That is because many of the other forums I am a member of (Truck, Motorcycle, ATV, Hunting, Antique Steam & Gas Engines, etc) have a large US membership. Throughout conversations on these I would be asked, where is Winnipeg?, so I just started telling those who asked, get on I29 and keep coming North.

My experience as a scrapper started at a very young age, as my Father started his business of buying and selling scrap metal as well as a metal fabrication shop in 1968. My brother and I had the job of recovering copper, aluminum, and brass from anything in the loads.

I didn't follow in his footsteps as my brother did, and I now work for an international company HQ'd in Winnipeg. Here I have a few choices of metal scrap yards to sell loads to, with the closest being only 5 minutes from my home and work. I just need a different avenue for e-scrap, especially now that I have three gaylords full of Mainframe Servers, PCs, Laptops, motherboards, finger boards, LCD monitors and of course CRTs. That is why I'm here.

I have already contacted some of the e-scrap buyers by private message through this forum and look forward to doing business with some very soon.

I tried uploading pics to this message and due to my limited computer skills I lost the entire post and had to start over. I will try posting them in a separate message in the appropriate section.

That about does it for now.
    Cheers!
    Brent

kc, I29's most northern point is Pembina, ND, but the highway does continue another 75 miles North, right into Winnipeg. Canadians aren't really in another world, it just seems like it.

129North which is your favorite yard in the Peg to deal with, 1rst time in Logan treated me more than fair, 2nd time hosed me bad. I've scratched them off my list.

I live near Sandy Lake a scrappers wet dream, welcome to the forum.

Way back when I, or my Father, has dealth with almost if not all. Western, Industrial, Orloff, Chisick, McPhillips, and some others which have been bought by the big boys. In the summer of 2010, we moved into a bigger house, but I lost the area where I used to store my treasures and had no choice but to haul it either 2 hours out of the city or cash it in. We only had a week or so to relocate so in haste I loaded up my truck with all sorts of mixed steel, and with tears in my eyes over 200 lbs of 4" diameter Stainless shaft. Again due to time I took it to Urbanmine on Kenaston (somehow they are connected to Chisick). Why; because they are only 5 minutes from home, no traffic hassles and the guys in the yard where great in helping me unload and displayed caution and care for me and my truck. I got $180 a ton, which I felt was fair, and I know I would have got more if I had taken the stainless on a separate load or rescaled, but time was of the essence.

I emailed them last week for brass and aluminum prices and within an hour I had a response with again fair prices. Now with e-scrap, it isn't their forte based on what they offered.

Now, gustavus, I have seen that on another forum somewhere; Machine Builders Network maybe, any chance that's you?
