    Hi from Canada

Hey all; I made my first trip to the scrap yard today after reading about it on this forum (Though not enough). Lots of lessons learned. I'm going to make a post in the scrap auto section with some details of my first car scrapping experience.

Here are the rates I got at my local scrap yard (in Ottawa, Ontario)

    AC Motors - 0.10/lb
    Aluminum Irony - 0.10/lb
    Batteries - 0.185/lb
    Aluminum Mixed - 0.45/lb
    Copper #2 insulated - 0.75/lb
    Copper #2 - 2.30/lb
    Steel/Iron- $165/metric tonne

I didn't really question any of it until afterwards; but do people usually get #2 copper rates for stripped wire? Maybe I should have asked for #1 copper price.

Anyways, happy to join the forum.

    Scott

Yes most stripped wire is #2 at the yard I go to as well. Because its not thicker then a pencil lead.

Hello Scott, welcome. I'm in Ottawa as well. Looks like prices are down quite a bit, especially for motors. Which yard did you go to?

I went to Cohens off Merivale. Any recommendations for a better place?

Have you checked out Arcelor Mittal on Sheffield? (The old Bakermet.) It's been a while since the last time I was there, but the prices were OK. Probably best to make a phone call first though. Good Luck!
