Hey, everyone. My name is Mike and I own Axiom Renovations, a remodeling company, in Virginia Beach, VA. I do commercial and residential renovations and have probably tossed more money in metal over the years than I care to think about.
Recently, work's been slow...I think we all know that. We were cleaning out a garage for a family friend and the my employee (whose been scrapping since a kid) suggested we take all the metal to the yard. From that one garage, her neighbors' two backyards and less than a week of leftovers, I made my way to the scrap yard for my first time yesterday. We probably spent a whole day Sunday in my backyard cleaning metal and hauling the trash away.
My first run to the scrap yard got me hooked: 1,920 pounds of steel, 45lbs of #1 copper, 35lbs of #2 copper and about 60lbs of insulated wire, 65lbs of aluminum and 8 aluminum wheels (i used a knife to get the tires off!). I had a ton of fun and made pretty decent money during a week I had no work.
I am also the kind of guy who wants to learn as much as possible and capitalize on everything. I learned about
escrap and decided to hold onto all the circuit boards: TV's, computers, video game systems, telephones, modems, routers, etc...I work on electronics and really enjoy taking them apart. I am ready to make some money outta this hobby of mine.
I have found this forum helpful over the last week and feel like I learned a lot. I have some questions to ask, though, so I registered in hopes to get some answers. Any news, ideas, experiences, finds or insight that I have to offer, I will gladly share. I believe in sharing knowledge and hope that I can help out as much as I can benefit. Thanks everyone!!!
