Cool Introduction - KennyChumsky from Youtube

    Hello fellow Scrappers! I am:

    Elena Evans-Chumsky

the wife of KennyChumsky from Youtube

I am new to Forums and just came across this one and love it. Therefore I joined and now I am introducing ourselves.

We currently and have been living without a security of a paycheck for over 3 years. We have a house, three kids and live in Port St Lucie, FL. To make a living we Ebay, Youtube, Craigslist, Yardsale & SCRAP! Or any other avenues which are ethical that come our way. We are not afraid of working hard for our money and enjoy the luxury of not having to report to a boss, just the bills! LOL

Kenny has been scrapping for over 20 years on and off, while I have just learned throughout the years we have been together. We still are learning every day. Here in Florida we are lucky to find scrap right off the side of the road constantly.

Even though we are versed and experience at certain types of scrap (Copper, Insulated Copper (Wire), Stainless Steel, CBM's, Steel, Irony/Sheet/Cast/Extruded Aluminum, etc...) I would consider us full time - learning gurus. We learn the hard way at times and then other times lucky enough to have support of forums like this or other video's that help us learn as well.

We do not pretend to be these big experts that own multimillion dollar scrap yards or chemists that know ever dangerous material in what we scrap, but we know what makes us money and are out to learn any more obvious or hidden ways to make more money. I personally like to learn the risks of scrapping (Mercury in bulbs, Beryllium Oxide in Microwaves, Appliances/Tv's can hold Charges, etc...) while my husband is the opposite. He just likes to get in and smash it up and learn sometimes the hard way.

Either way we enjoy what we do and together make a great team. I know that safety and ethics are very important in scrapping and even though this is not one of our best videos I thought it was the most appropriate video for our introduction since if you see any other video of Kenny smashing stuff up without safety equipment you will understand his point of view (right or wrong). Please do not view this video if you can not handle an reenactment of a dead person and a bloody finger.

If you are interested in learning more about us please check out our Youtube Channel or BiggerHammer Blog

From there we hope to join the Scrapping Forum family to learn and share Scrapping Techniques & Tips.

    PS

If you read this far... WOW!!! Thanks LOL

    Elena

Welcome to the Forum, Elana and Kenny. I enjoy your Youtube vidoes and just watched the one on the toaster oven a couple hours ago. First watched you last year when our old TV went and I decided to scrap it but had never scrapped a TV. Easy to follow along since it was the same model.
People may laugh at me, but that's ok. I laugh all the way to the bank.

WOW! Thanks for the Quick and Warm Welcome. So glad to help with the TV, however I do not think we have yet to make a video of a toaster oven. I think you are thinking of Jackshmuc - I like his vids too... Mick what is your Youtube name so I know who you are if you comment. Thanks again!

No, it was you and Elena (Kenny?). I went back in my History file. It was actually the microwave titled "what to scrap and NOT....". I've never tried leaving comments so just went to see what it'd do. Shows as my wife's name - sherylsmith51.

Sometimes I use Windows Live Photo Gallery to make movies when pictures are involved, but 90% of the time I just use the Youtube Editing Tools they have. Thanks for the Welcome & Positive Comment about our videos! Please let me know if you have anymore questions! I'm glad to help when I can!

I will check the Windows program out tonight. Didn't know that youtube came with editing tools, but that is a definite plus for them.

Right now I am waiting for new accessories to come in the mail from amazon for my camcorder.

The video that you all did with the ceiling fan, I definitely enjoyed. Ever since that video, I tear apart all the ceiling fans that I get in.

One thing I found interesting, is that your yard will sell you guys stuff, like the trumpet or whatever it was, that you sold on ebay for over $400.

YEAH! Second time that has happened to us. I purchased an old GE Brass Search Light (With broken Glass) from a ship dated back to early 1900's purchased for less then $30 - It was pretty heavy. I sold it for $405 to someone in Australia. On top of the $405 they also paid $105 for shipping! I have yet to really lose out in buying items from the yard. Thing is that really like to see the good items not go to waste/melted. The guy told me with the Trombone that he was just going to donate them to a music school! However, there are a few items they will not sell yet. Currently they have a 300 pound brass horse from an old carousel. LOL

lol that is crazy! I really love doing store cleanouts, and taking everything from steel, metal, copper, brass, and wire. I am not really into dumpster diving/trash nights, but that is mainly because I never have time for it.

However, that is how I got started, but back then, there was less than 20 scrappers, and now there is close to 200 if not more lol.

I haven't bought anything from ebay as of yet, but have bought lots from amazon.com.

    Elena:

That reminds me, one thing I don't think you all scrap as of yet, is electronics. If not, definitely get into it. There is SEVERAL e scrappers and buyers on here that can give you the 411, and there is MONEY to be made in it!

Yeah I made a long boring vid about gold recovery from a motherboard... LOL Thought I was going to get rich by snipping the ends of a cpu off and sending them off to a gold recovery place... LOL Now I save all of my boards, hard drives, memory & cpu's oh and even cell phones to either sell on Ebay or the hopes of maybe one day taking the time out to learn how to smelt them myself... =P I will definitely get around to reading up on it. It is on my to do list for sure! Also, I have heard of old telephone some having up to 1 ounce of gold in them. Thanks for the welcome and I will take you advice! =)

Yeah Vehicles and Electronics are an avenue so far we haven't really dove into yet. I have a bins saved up for when I can tackle it. Saving all my Motherboards, cellphones, Cpu's, Memory and Hard Drives. Eventually I know I will tackle it and when we do you know there will be a video =)
