    Cool Hello All From DumbD...

    Hello all,
Little about myself (trying organize my scrapping experience/personal info):

Been working scrap metal/recycling since about May 2011 (now is Dec.).
I'm in my mid thirties with two daughters (toddler, cutest in world, and 4 month old).
Have experience in electrical, drywall, HVAC, labor, moving&storage, machine shop, steel factory, shipping&recieving, etc.

Was working handyman jobs after getting laid-off totally unexpectedly from the steel factory (day after I got married since it was a career, two days before christmas) been a tough three years now...

Went to a day-labor place (which I feel is rediculous for me, But better than NO work)...
Met up with one of the Non-druggies there who told me one day, "with your truck, WE don't need this place" ...Had a bill to pay that day and would not make it even with work ,so I said ,"It's whatever(at this point)"...
He was from Jamaica originally (odd friend/business partner for myself to be honest)
I suppose since it's an island they probably recycle a lot more because he was the hardest worker I've ever worked with, hussler too, and taught me the "scrapping" trade VERY well.

Anyway, we've gone our own ways, and I work from my little mid-eighties ford ranger.
just gotten a 10x20x10 storage space to work from since all my junk bugs the heck out of my landlord (to the point of threatening eviction, confusing me with a "horder", etc. LOL)...

Well, I am just here to learn new tips, and share some experience and knowledge ...
seems like an awesome forum for our trade here!

Oh, new thing I'm maybe getting into is recycling cardboard too although my only place
    pays like $60 per ton.
I get ripped off on steel too getting about 4 or 5 cents per pound, but the place is two miles away.
...Building a route, but that's difficult, so I mostly just hussle, and find demo jobs not wishing to scrap steel,(or too stupid to know it's alum. or brass) etc.

Happy to be a new member here!
    Thanks!
(My username was my old nickname when I was a "bachelor" bythe way, I think it's funny/cool ...Like calling a big guy "tiny" is all).

Glad you joined us. Your past jobs make scrapping perfect for you, but I know you'll learn a lot of shortcuts here and probably teach us some, too. You sound like a good Dad, too.

Welcome aboard. Also, day labor agencies may seem benealth people, but when you have no other choice, and need money coming in, it is better than $0 at all.

    Welcome to the board DD.

Seems your Jamaican friend was a great asset to you. I hope you can mend that connection if possible.

Renting space to scrap may be your only option at this point but it is a losing proposition in the long run.
Rent never pans out for the renter. Hard call, rent cost verses angered wife.
