I started collecting metal 3 or 4 years ago, walking along the roads here. Can't remember why, but I hoarded the first year until our lease was up (I miss you scraps!) and then I started to specialize a bit, into chainmaille and small wire creations, and still the occasional useful construction (like my old hatchet).
I took my first trip to the local yard less than a month ago, had 8 lbs of copper from my uncle's old water-heating setup. $20 bucks never felt so good! I spent the next day with wide eyes and a giant smile (and a big heap of sorted metal).
I do a lot of e scrap, one issue I've found is that I tend to take things apart very slowly, very carefully, so as to preserve the wire or what have you that's inside, and I've had hard time making myself tear things up. Then again, slowly but surely, the hammer has become my friend : )
Oh and, Tivru is fine for a name, or maybe Ed.
