    Hello from Cary, IL

Hi my name is Tom, I'm 17 years old, I currently run a small lawn maintenance company that I started about 4 years ago. I started scrapping this last spring (our town has a spring clean-up where you can throw away an unlimited amount of trash for free) And I pulled in a decent amount of cash. While scrapping is not my main source of income, I use the money I earn for gas (never had to pay a dime all summer for my mowers or vehicle) I never expeced that there would be a forum for scrappers but I was obviously wrong! I'm also a member of lawnsite.com which is a forum for people in the Green Industry

Welcome Tom. I applaud your initiative. Scrapping is a good way to supplement your income. I'm from the north end of the county, so not too far from you. Are you using Behr or Elgin/CL as your scrapyard?

I use Elgin Recycling out of Crystal Lake, I go there about 1-2X a week. I'm friends with the manager, and if I go there when he opens up, he'll give me the high grade steel prices regardless of what I bring in. (it's only 2-3 cents extra, but I've noticed that it really does make a huge difference in payout)

Since you go to Elgin/CL that much, would you mind posting their current payouts in the "scrap metal prices" section? I haven't used them in a while, but I remember their payouts being much lower than other yards. It would be nice to see if that has changed.

Sure, I'll do my best. Their reciepts suck ass, I just came back from there this morning, and it's annoying to try to figure out what each price is. I'll post a pic of that too. From what I know and heard, their prices are low (I'm one of the few scrappers that go there, mostly building contractors go there). But since it's only 5-7 minutes from my house.

That's what I've noticed too. That's why I use Behr more often. They give a printout of everything making it easy to know there are no mistakes. Not like the scribble on a scrap of paper you get from Elgin. ( I normally used their Palatine yard, not C.L.)
